New Water Fields in Fokida: Seaplanes Establish Themselves in Central Greece!

June 13, 2024

After Fthiotida, it is now Fokida’s turn to embrace the seaplane project, with the creation of a local network of water fields, adding six new locations! These include the ports of the destinations Trizonia, Galaxidi, Molo Agion Panton, Eratini, and Agios Nikolaos, which, led by Itea, will put seaplanes on the tourism map of the region.

Hellenic Seaplanes, in direct cooperation with the Fokida Port Authority and its President Mrs. Sophia Anagnostakou, as well as with the Region of Central Greece and Mr. Fanis Spanos, is strategically expanding its infrastructure network, having already submitted files for the licensing of seaplane stations in Itea, Agioi Pantes, and Eratini. In the coming days, the process will proceed similarly for the approval of the water fields in Trizonia, Galaxidi, and Agios Nikolaos.

It is worth noting that the plan for Fokida also includes the creation of a water airport, with Hellenic Seaplanes taking on the project for establishing a water airport in Itea. Once completed, Central Greece will become one of the first regions to bring water airports as a means of transportation, having in its portfolio numerous water fields as well as water airports in key areas, effectively supporting the operation of seaplanes.

Opening Development Wings Over Fokida!
For the six destinations in Fokida that will soon gain infrastructure, the “key players” of the projects emphasized that seaplanes and their new stations open up prospects for the development of tourism across the region and can attract other modernization investments.

Ioannis Bougas, Deputy Minister of Justice and MP for Fokida:
“I was particularly pleased to learn about the interest of Hellenic Seaplanes in creating a seaplane network in our region, recognizing the important role it will play in upgrading the wider area. The operation and utilization of the new water fields and the modern water airport in Itea will highlight the unique characteristics of a developing city, in the center of Greece and near the archaeological site of Delphi, making it a reference point for promoting quality maritime tourism.”

Fanis Spanos, Regional Governor of Central Greece:
“Our goal is for Central Greece to become a leader in adopting seaplanes as a means of transport. We firmly believe that seaplanes will bring multiple benefits to our region. They will significantly improve connectivity, boost tourism, create new jobs, and breathe new life into the local economy.”

Sophia Anagnostakou, President of the Fokida Port Authority:
“The developmental character of our region is moving forward, and this is clearly reflected in the decision, in addition to the Itea water airport, to invest in the possibilities of seaplanes, with seven new water fields. Fokida is gaining new dynamism, transforming it into an attractive tourist hub with direct and easy connections to other destinations in Central Greece and beyond…”

Nicolas Charalambous, CEO of Hellenic Seaplanes:
“We thank the Fokida Port Authority and the Region of Central Greece for their trust in allowing us to create a new infrastructure network in Fokida, which will facilitate the arrival of seaplanes at its ports. Fokida is an excellent destination with rich history, picturesque landscapes, and a welcoming tradition, and we believe that seaplanes will successfully enhance its tourism profile.”
