Hellenic Seaplanes Implements New Safety Measures for Passengers and Flights” Along with Preparations for Flight Operations

May 25, 2020

Alongside preparations for the launch of seaplane flights, Hellenic Seaplanes is enhancing its safety protocols by introducing the use of smart helmets with thermal cameras. These helmets will assist in detecting temperatures, monitoring functionality, and recognizing faces, thereby safeguarding the health and overall security of passengers in the water airport areas.

The easing of government measures against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic places the transportation sector at the forefront, aiming to absorb the impacts of the lockdown and take steps forward with positive momentum.

In this context, Hellenic Seaplanes in alignment with international and European regulations concerning safety prevention and the protection of passenger health during air travel and their presence at water airports, has decided to proceed with the purchase of specialized helmets for COVID-19 protection.

The selection of the “smart” helmets by Hellenic Seaplanes followed the recommendation of Future Cooperation Group which is the representative of this technology in Greece and Cyprus.

Specifically, these helmets are capable of scanning and monitoring hundreds of individuals per minute. Their use is intended for both the security personnel staffing the water airports and the employees working in various positions within the facilities, who will have direct contact with the public and, consequently, with passengers who may potentially carry the virus.

The seaplane airline’s plan for safeguarding the health and protection of passengers includes the use of helmets, initially for distanced temperature screening and passenger checks upon entry to the water airports across the country, and secondly for the safe monitoring and operation of the water airports.

The President and CEO of Hellenic Seaplanes, Mr. Nikolaos Charalambous, stated:
“After conducting research and reviewing the use of helmets abroad, particularly in government security services and high-passenger-traffic areas, we decided to proceed with the purchase of ‘smart’ helmets. This will not only address the necessary safety requirements for the operation of water airports but also help eliminate health risks.

The safety of our passengers and the sense of responsibility we feel towards ensuring their safe transport led us to this decision, taking all the necessary steps that every airline and public gathering area must take in the fight we are also joining, to reduce COVID-19 cases.”

With the purchase of the “smart” helmet, Hellenic Seaplanes ensures the maximum potential of these new systems, remaining committed to its plan for modernizing technological tools used to enhance travel safety with seaplanes. Additionally, it continues its efforts to eliminate any factor that may prevent its seaplanes from carrying out their first flights over Greece in 2020.
