For the First Time, a Seaplane in Amfilochia: Hellenic Seaplanes Aircraft Arrives in Western Greece!

July 15, 2024

After the Sporades and Skyros, Hellenic Seaplanes has now made its debut at the port of Amfilochia!

In a significant moment for the development of Amfilochia and the seaplane industry in Western Greece, the amphibious aircraft of Hellenic Seaplanes successfully completed its first reconnaissance water landing at the water field in Amfilochia’s port, a location where a water airport is planned for construction.

The water landing took place on Sunday, July 14, marking a milestone for the city as it signifies its inclusion in the seaplane network of Greece. Upon the arrival of the seaplane at the port, Hellenic Seaplanes officials thoroughly examined the docking area, assessing the conditions and suitability of the infrastructure for the establishment of the water airport.

The trip to Amfilochia adds to the company’s earlier flights to the Aegean, which included destinations such as Skopelos, Alonissos, and Skyros. These initial flights were aimed at familiarizing the crew and operational staff of Hellenic Seaplanes with the Greek skies and seas as part of the company’s preparations for the official launch of commercial flights in the near future.

The arrival of seaplanes in Amfilochia brings with it an economic boost and tourism development, as the city’s connection to the infrastructure in Patras, Kyllini, Ioannina, and the Ionian, with Corfu and Paxos at its center, offers more passengers the incentive to discover its beauty throughout the year.

Following the news of the water landing of Hellenic Seaplanes’ amphibious aircraft in the waters of Amvrakikos, the President and CEO of Hellenic Seaplanes, Mr. Nicolas Charalambous, stated:
“Recently, we have enjoyed seeing our seaplane flying to various destinations in the Aegean, and it was now Amfilochia’s turn to experience firsthand the capabilities of an amphibious aircraft, which, in just a few minutes, operated at the port and in the calm waters of Amvrakikos. All these flights aim to increase the recognition of seaplanes nationwide and for us to personally familiarize ourselves with the locations we will soon be officially serving with the start of our commercial flights.”
