Kalamatas Water Airport: Completion of the land facilities at the Messinia Water Airport!

December 4, 2023

The business plans of Hellenic Seaplanes for the Peloponnese and Kalamata have been steadily developing for quite some time and are now taking shape with the construction of the land facilities of Kalamata’s water airport, specifically the establishment of the passenger terminal at the Messinia port.

The first phase, which has been completed, involved the installation of the passenger service building of the water airport within the internal harbor. The sea plane passenger terminal is expected to serve travelers year-round, as passengers will be able to:

  • Issue new tickets on-site
  • Check-in for their flights
  • Complete necessary checks before their journey
  • Wait in the lounge until their flight departs

The next step involves the completion of the water facilities with the installation of a floating docking pier, where passengers will embark and disembark.

The goal is to have the Peloponnese water airport network, including the water airports of Patras, Kyllini, Kalamata, Ermionida, Monemvasia, Nafplio, Nea Kios, and Gythio, fully operational and sustainable soon.

This new addition in Messinia complements the existing network connecting the city, with Kalamata rapidly developing as a tourist destination, creating new travel options, and fostering new products in the local economy and entrepreneurship.

The Mayor of Kalamata, Mr. Thanasis Vasilopoulos, mentioned that:

“We are one step closer to seeing the first sea planes flying over our city, at Kalamata’s port… In the coming weeks, as I’ve discussed with the Hellenic Seaplanes representative, the platform will arrive, and we expect to see the first sea planes landing in our region by February-March.”

In statements made at the Kalamata port, the President and CEO of the company, Mr. Nicolas Charalambous, emphasized:

“Hellenic Seaplanes is preparing to spread its wings with its sea planes over Greece, and the positive developments brought by the completion of the land facilities at Kalamata’s water airport complete the Peloponnese network puzzle. The sector of air connectivity with sea planes has reached its starting point, and soon passengers will be flying from port to port, enjoying a new experience of fast and improved transportation to islands, coastal, and lakeside areas.”

Kalamatas Water Airport’s Digital Profile Is Ready!
As a modern infrastructure, alongside the construction work at Kalamata’s port, the digital identity of the project is also being created, and the official page of the water airport is now a reality.

The website for Kalamata’s water airport is now available to the public, providing all the information passengers need to learn about the project’s profile, the facilities, services, and potential sea plane routes and flights to/from the airport.
