The official visits of Greece’s Minister of Health, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, to Skopelos, Skyros, and Patmos were carried out aboard the Hellenic Seaplanes seaplane, demonstrating in practice the potential of a modern transportation model that can transform the way the Greek islands are connected.
The choice of a seaplane for these official journeys highlights its value as a fast, safe, and flexible means of transportation, capable of serving not only tourism but also the needs of public administration, healthcare, civil protection, and local communities.
Three different island destinations and one common advantage: the ability to travel directly from port to port, significantly reducing travel times and bringing mainland Greece and the Greek islands closer together.
Skopelos and Skyros by Seaplane: Efficient Transportation in Practice
The flights to Skopelos and Skyros were carried out as part of the Minister of Health’s visits for the inauguration of upgraded Primary Health Care facilities and his meetings with local authorities.
The Minister of Health was accompanied by Hellenic Seaplanes President and CEO, Mr. Nicolaos Charalampous, the Governor of the 5th Health Region of Thessaly and Central Greece, Mr. Fotis Seretis, as well as Members of Parliament for Magnesia, Mr. Christos Boukoros, Ms. Zetta Makri, and Ms. Konstantina Karampatsoli.
This mission demonstrated in practice the operational advantages of seaplanes. In just four and a half hours, the route Athens – Skopelos – Skyros – Athens was completed, enabling the Minister to inaugurate two upgraded healthcare facilities on two different islands within the same day.This represents a new transportation model that significantly reduces travel times and creates new opportunities for public administration, healthcare services, civil protection, and the Greek islands as a whole.
Patmos: Seaplanes Bring the Aegean Closer!
In Patmos, the Minister of Health traveled with fellow passengers the President and CEO of Hellenic Seaplanes, Mr. Nicolaos Charalampous, Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese, Ms. Mika Iatridi, and Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese, Mr. Ioannis Pappas.
The mission to Patmos once again confirmed the significant operational advantages of seaplanes. Within a total travel time of just four hours, the Athens – Patmos – Athens route was completed, with a flight time of approximately one hour per leg, allowing for the completion of a full schedule of official visits.
During his stay on the island, the Minister of Health inaugurated the upgraded healthcare facilities, visited the Cave of the Apocalypse, held a meeting at the Town Hall, and attended a dinner hosted in his honor before returning to Athens on the same day.
This example highlights in practice how an organized seaplane network can significantly reduce travel times, increase the efficiency of public missions, and bring the Aegean islands closer to mainland Greece.
A Means of Transport That Is Changing Distances in Greece
The ability of amphibious aircraft to directly connect ports with one another, as well as ports with airports, creates a new level of accessibility for the country, overcoming geographical limitations and significantly reducing travel times.
