The Seaplane Network Expands – In Flight!

July 8, 2025

Following the impressive first water landing in Patmos, Hellenic Seaplanes spreads its wings to Skyros, ushering in a new era of connectivity in the Aegean.

First Successful Flight in Patmos – A Historic Day for the Island
The Hellenic Seaplanes sea plane landed precisely at the port of Skala, with the Mayor of Patmos, Nikitas Tsampalakis, becoming the first passenger on this symbolic flight.

Mayor Nikitas Tsampalakis stated:
“Today, Patmos takes a historic step forward. I have the honor of being the first passenger on the first sea plane flight… Patmos deserves modern solutions and better connectivity with the rest of Greece.”

Mr. Tsampalakis, who has served as mayor since 2024, welcomed the initiative as a catalyst for change on the island, injecting new energy into maritime transportation and tourism.

“The sea plane is currently the safest mode of air travel available. International statistics show a clear advantage in terms of safety, and this remains our absolute priority. We want every passenger to feel completely secure on every flight,” emphasized Nicolas Charalambous, President and CEO of Hellenic Seaplanes.

“Patmos is a strategic point in our network across the Southern Aegean. Our goal is to establish regular daily routes connecting the island with Athens, Leros, Samos, and other destinations, addressing a real transportation need that we are already observing in the market,” he noted, underlining the future potential of the initiative.

Regarding ticket pricing, Mr. Charalambous added:
“Hellenic Seaplanes is introducing a new travel experience with a particularly affordable pricing policy. For instance, the Athens–Patmos route is expected to cost approximately €150, while inter-island flights, such as to Samos or Leros, will range around €50–60. We want these flights to be accessible to more travelers—not a luxury for the few.”

Takeoff to Skyros – The Next Stop in the Aegean!
The success of the first flights to Volos and Patmos is not the end, but just the beginning. Today, July 8, the company’s sea plane departs for Skyros, where the first water landing and inauguration of the new water field will take place, with the presence of local authorities and stakeholders.

Commenting on the flight to Skyros, Mr. Nicolas Charalambous said:
“With every water landing, we make history. Patmos welcomed us warmly yesterday, and now we fly to Skyros to bring this beautiful island into the sea plane network. The vision is becoming reality, and we are determined to reach every island that needs better access.”

The Future of the Aegean Arrives by Air… via Sea
With a steady expansion plan, Hellenic Seaplanes is gradually connecting the Aegean, selecting strategic destinations such as Patmos, Skyros, Leros, Lipsi, Samos, and Rhodes. The network is being developed with the goal of providing:

  • Daily scheduled routes,
  • Affordable fares,
  • Safe and reliable transportation,
  • Meeting both tourism and social connectivity needs.

A new era for the Aegean islands has just begun. With a steady hand at the helm and a forward-looking approach, Hellenic Seaplanes is transforming the map of Greek island travel, landing at some of Greece’s most unique and breathtaking destinations.
