After 10 years, Hellenic Seaplanes’ First Trial Flights in Attica!

January 19, 2024

Hellenic Seaplanes, the company that is reintroducing passenger transportation services via seaplanes to Greece after more than a decade, is conducting its first trial flights in Attica on January 19 and 20.

The company’s amphibious aircraft, based at the Megara Airport and destined for the licensed water field in Lavrio, is performing test flights in preparation for the launch of official flights in Spring 2024 to Corfu, Paxos, Antipaxos, and the Diapontian Islands.

The Route of the First Trial Flight
The seaplane, piloted by two experienced Italian pilots from Hellenic Seaplanes, will conduct a flight lasting approximately 18 minutes. Upon reaching Lavrio Port, the aircraft will follow a sightseeing route over the Athenian Riviera and the Temple of Poseidon.

During the seaplane’s water landing in Lavrio, the CEO of Hellenic Seaplanes, Mr. Nicolas Charalambous, stated:
“Hellenic Seaplanes is bringing a significant investment to Greece. We are very pleased to conduct our first trial flights, which coincide with the 10-year anniversary of the company’s founding and hold symbolic importance for us and our efforts to see seaplanes back in Greek skies. The test flight marks the beginning of a new era for transportation in Greece, signaling that we are ready for our commercial flights. The development of the seaplane industry will pave the way for fast, safe flights in Greece, while offering a unique travel experience to its passengers.”

The Next Steps and a Significant Factor for Seaplanes
With the completion of the test flights, the first decisive step is taken to bring seaplanes back to the skies, through organized and charter flights from the water airport in Corfu to Paxos and other collaborating airports and water airports.

Alongside passenger air transport flights, sightseeing flights will begin, offering aerial tours over the sights of Corfu, Paxos, Antipaxos, and the Diapontian Islands (Othonoi), providing new tourist experiences to visitors, as well as practical transportation solutions to local travelers who wish to move around in their daily lives.

A significant factor for the development of Hellenic Seaplanes’ flight plan is the securing of the AOC (Air Operator Certificate) from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, which will grant the company the commercial right to implement the flight schedule, with the first goal being Spring 2024.
