The island of Panagia (the Virgin Mary) and the island of Revelation are “opening” the way for the largest network of water airports in the world, with Hellenic Seaplanes planning sea plane flights in Greece!
The times when water airports were just plans and ambitions are now behind us, as the chapter of licensing and construction has now opened wide, with Tinos and Patmos preparing for their operational start!
Tinos is getting closer to welcoming the first sea planes, as the installation of the land infrastructure for its water airport is currently taking place at the island’s outer port.
Specifically, the land facilities of the water airport will serve hundreds of passengers throughout the year, as they will be able to check-in for their flights, remain in the waiting area, purchase new tickets from the designated employees at the water airport kiosks, and have their luggage checked before their journey.
Immediate Developments in Patmos and Sifnos!
The islands of the South Aegean have laid solid foundations regarding the construction of their water airports, with the first network of water airports being formed and built daily. In Patmos, the construction of the water airport has already been completed, and the next steps involve the transport and installation of the equipment for both the external and internal areas of the facility.
Meanwhile, in Sifnos, following the completion of the tender process for the water airport and the selection of Hellenic Seaplanes as the leading company, developments are equally swift. Discussions regarding the contract terms of the project have been completed, and the company is moving quickly to initiate the construction procedures for the water airport.
Sea Planes Are Coming Closer to Alimos!
While awaiting the completion of the licensing process for the Alimos water airport, Hellenic Seaplanes has begun the necessary procedures to add a water field in the area, in addition to the water airport. This strategic move was decided by the responsible company so that Alimos can meet deadlines and fully integrate into the network of water airports that will operate flights.
Upon the completion of the licensing process, Alimos will become the first water airport in Athens, marking a significant step for the development of sea planes in Greece.
Sporades and Evia in the Spotlight
Good news is coming from the water airport network in the Sporades, as the technical files for the islands of Skopelos, Alonissos, and Skyros are nearing approval, with the construction of their water airports soon to follow.
Regarding the network of water airports in Evia, in Halkida, Aidipsos, Karystos, Aliveri, and Kymi, the timeline for actions includes receiving the relevant opinions from the appropriate departments of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport so that the process can move forward for the simultaneous initiation of construction in the selected locations.
Regarding the installation of land infrastructure at the Tinos water airport and all the developments regarding the water airport network in Greece, the President and CEO of Hellenic Seaplanes, Mr. Nicolas Charalambous, stated:
“The developments in the field of water airports and sea planes, with the recent installation of land infrastructure in Tinos, Patmos, and Sifnos, fill us with satisfaction and optimism, especially in a present overshadowed by the tragic events of the war in Ukraine. Hellenic Seaplanes’ plan to create a strong network of water airports in Greece, with the ambition of becoming the largest network in the world, continues relentlessly, with the first sea plane flights set to begin this season! We have the knowledge and experience to succeed, and the results of the licensing and construction at the water airports we have undertaken show us the way to success.”
