{"id":39430,"date":"2024-07-08T11:21:21","date_gmt":"2024-07-08T11:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hellenic-seaplanes.com\/deltia-typou\/synantisi-udroplana-agio-nikola\/"},"modified":"2025-05-14T12:14:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T12:14:47","slug":"agios-nikolaos-crete-interested-in-seaplanes","status":"publish","type":"deltia-typou","link":"https:\/\/hellenic-seaplanes.com\/en\/deltia-typou\/agios-nikolaos-crete-interested-in-seaplanes\/","title":{"rendered":"Agios Nikolaos Crete interested in Bringing Seaplanes to Its Port!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>Meeting Between Agios Nikolaos Mayor and Hellenic Seaplanes Regarding the Prospects of Creating a Seaplane Base and Two Waterfields in the Capital of the Lasithi Prefecture<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">With the vision of a smoother connection between Agios Nikolaos and the rest of Crete and the islands of the Southern Aegean, a meeting took place between the Mayor of Agios Nikolaos, Mr. Manolis Menegakis, and the President and CEO of Hellenic Seaplanes, Mr. Nicolas Charalambous, at the company&#8217;s new offices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The discussion focused on informing the Mayor about the specifications and procedures needed for the municipality to establish <\/span><b>seaplane infrastructure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including<\/span><b> a seaplane base and two waterfields<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to support seaplane operations throughout the year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">With the nearest airports to Agios Nikolaos being in Heraklion and Sitia, and the farthest being in Chania, the city will now have seaplane infrastructure, allowing direct access to tourist resorts and easier connections to other destinations in Crete and the Aegean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the prospect of collaboration between Hellenic Seaplanes and Agios Nikolaos, the company aims to <\/span><b>expand its seaplane network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the island, having already included the <\/span><b>water airports of Sitia, Rethymno, and Ierapetra, as well as water fields in Sitia and soon in Heraklia.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of the meeting, Mr. Menegakis stated:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The prospect of creating a seaplane base and waterfields for seaplanes in the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos, which has a large coastal management area, operates a Municipal Port Fund, and has a Municipal Corporation, we believe will provide a significant boost for the further tourism development of the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos and the Lasithi Prefecture. It will also offer residents and visitors a new transportation option. Additionally, it could serve as a social service for the transportation of citizens and visitors in case of emergency. The local community and the Municipal Council will soon be informed about the opportunities available so that a collaboration can be decided for the benefit of the region.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr. Charalambous added:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Hellenic Seaplanes would like to strengthen its presence in Crete by creating a seaplane base and waterfields in Agios Nikolaos.
